The short version: The Option LLC builds applications that keep your data on your device. We do not run servers that store customer data, we do not sell information to anyone, and we do not use advertising or analytics tracking in our apps.
Data practices for each individual app are listed separately below.
Scope
This policy covers The Option LLC, a Vermont limited liability company, and the applications we publish. It explains our company-wide privacy commitments and then describes the specific data handling of each app.
If you are looking for the privacy details of a particular app, skip to the app-specific practices section.
Our company-wide commitments
These apply to every application we publish, regardless of what it does:
- We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in our applications.
- We default to on-device storage. Where an app can work without sending your data anywhere, it does.
- We collect the minimum necessary. If a feature does not require your information to function, we do not request it.
App-specific practices
Each application below describes exactly what it does with your information. Additional apps will be added to this section as they are released.
Speech Den
Session data tracking for speech-language pathologists
What we collect
Nothing. The Option LLC does not collect, receive, transmit, store, or have access to any information you enter into Speech Den. This includes student or client names, session and trial data, notes, timing records, your contact information, device identifiers, location, and usage analytics.
How your data is stored
All information you enter is stored locally on your device. Speech Den contains no networking code: it makes no network requests, includes no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services, and has no third-party software libraries. There is no mechanism in the app by which your data could be transmitted anywhere.
Session data is encrypted at rest using iOS file-level protection and remains encrypted whenever your device is locked.
Speech Den also includes an optional lock that uses the Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode already configured on your device. It is switched on by default, so the app asks you to authenticate each time you open it, and it can be turned off at any time in the app's Settings. Authentication is performed entirely by iOS — Speech Den receives only whether it succeeded, and never has access to your biometric data. If your device has no passcode or biometrics configured, the lock cannot be used and the app opens normally.
Device backups
By default, Speech Den data may be included in your device's iCloud or local backups, which are governed by Apple's privacy practices rather than ours. If your organization's policies require that this data not be backed up to iCloud, you can exclude Speech Den from iCloud Backup in the iOS Settings app, under your Apple Account's iCloud backup settings.
Exporting your data
Speech Den can generate export files of your session data. Exports are always initiated by you and delivered through the standard iOS share sheet, which means you choose the destination. The Option LLC does not receive a copy of any export and has no visibility into where you send it. Once data leaves the app, it is governed by the privacy practices of whatever service or storage you send it to.
Student and client information
Speech Den is designed for professionals who work with children and may handle information protected under FERPA, IDEA, HIPAA, or state privacy law.
Because The Option LLC never receives your data, we do not act as a service provider, business associate, or school official with respect to any records you create in the app. Responsibility for how student and client records are collected, stored, exported, retained, and disclosed remains with you and your employing organization.
If your school district, clinic, or employer requires a vendor privacy review, this policy and the app's offline architecture should be provided to them. We are glad to answer questions from your compliance office directly.
Deleting your data
Deleting Speech Den from your device removes all data stored by the app. Inside the app you can archive a student at any time, and permanently delete a student who has no saved sessions. A student with recorded sessions is archived rather than deleted, so that session history is not lost by accident. Because we never hold a copy, there is no request to submit to us and nothing for us to erase on our end.
Children's privacy
Our applications are intended for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Where an app collects no data at all, there is nothing for us to receive, retain, or delete.
Third parties
We do not share customer data with third parties. Our applications integrate no third-party SDKs, services, or analytics platforms.
If you download one of our apps from the App Store, Apple collects information about that transaction under its own privacy policy. That relationship is between you and Apple.
Your rights
Privacy laws including the GDPR, CCPA, and various state statutes give you rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal data held by a company. Where an app stores data only on your device, The Option LLC holds none of it, so there is nothing for us to produce or delete in response to such a request. You retain full and direct control over the records on your device.
Changes to this policy
If an application's functionality changes in a way that affects data handling, or when we release a new app, we will update this policy and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be noted in the relevant app's release notes.
